Misconception

Madam,

This is in reference to the article Teaching as a career option( Issue 8, October 31, 2005).

Although teaching as a profession is noble and challenging, it is yet to make a mark for itself as a high-profile job. I am an engineer currently pursuing my Ph.D from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu Univeristy (ITBHU) and I can tell you that none from this field is interested in taking up teaching as a career despite the fact that it offers good salary prospects.

There is this general misconception that people go for teaching only when they fail to get jobs in other sectors. People are yet to understand that there are persons like me who love teaching and willingly want to make it a career.
