Demand for Disneyland Hong Kong tickets to surge

Overseas travel agents and inbound tour operators have called for implementation of more flexible ticket system for the recently inaugurated Hong Kong Disneyland.

“Hong Kong Disneyland would be unable to cope with the influx of visitors from the mainland during the golden week holidays following the National Day, the tourism industry predicted,” says one of the media reports. As per the information available, Michael Wu Sui-ieng, chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents, said it was estimated that half of the 650,000 mainland visitors coming to Hong Kong between September 30 and October 10 would visit the theme park

As per the estimates, almost 330,000 mainlanders would visit the park in 11 days, stretching Disney’s capability of 30,000 people a day.

Recently, Roy Tan Hardy, Hong Kong Disneyland's marketing head, stated a big turnout during the national Golden Holiday in the first week of October. However, it is hard to project in advance as Chinese tend to plan their vacations just seven to 10 days in advance.

“Overseas travel agents and inbound tour operators left out of pocket over unused Disneyland tickets from cancellations or no-shows are calling on the theme park to implement a more flexible ticketing system,” said the report.  Travel agents acknowledged that tour groups would be given priority when arranging tickets, but individual visitors might be left out in case there were not enough tickets.
