Online travel bookings in Asia tipped to grow to US$16 billion by 2006

Indicating a positive future for online travel bookings in Asia, the sector is being projected to double its 2003's figures to US$16 billion by 2006. A report attributed the increasing ease of access to the Internet within the region and the emergence of budget carriers, with 16 in the region, as major factors contributing to the online travel surge. 

According to the report, an estimated 29% of regional air travel bookings will be made online by the end of 2005, up sharply from 3.5% in the previous year

Other than the traditional markets of Japan and Australia, there are other markets which are pushing online travel booking projections. Taiwan and Hong Kong were the biggest contributors with travel agents in Korea beginning to jump on the bandwagon.
