Italy to tap Indian fashion industry

Italian companies are all set to tap India's growing fashion industry, with brands like "Trussardi" and "Gianfranco Ferre" either opening or planning to open showrooms in the country.

"Italy will showcase its fashion industry in the ongoing Festa Italiana 2005 and we have some good results coming out of the annual event with these big names all set to come to India," Indo Italian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IICCI) Secretary General Andrea Bonardi told PTI on the sidelines of a seminar.

Elaborating on Festa Italiana, he said the objective of the event was to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries, especially in the areas of fashion, cinema, tourism, biotechnology and automobile.

A delegation of film producers would be coming to India by the end of November to work out the areas of co-production and for promotion of Italy as a preferred destination for making movies, he said.
