Garment fair expected to do business worth $60 m

With India’s garment exports looking up in the post-quota period, the 36th India International Garment Fair (IIGF), which is India’s largest fashion and garment export forum, is expected to generate business worth well over $60 million. The fair is slated to take place in January next year, with an expected participation of more than 800 exporters and 350 exhibitors from all over the country.

Indian International Garment Association (IIGA) Chairman Pritam Goel said, “This time the fair is taking place on a larger scale.” Garment exporters are optimistic about the flow of buying and selling being even better than last time.

“The most important highlight of this edition of the fair is that the IIGF has now acquired international stature,” said Mr. Goel.

The country’s garment exports have done well, showing an overall growth rate of 15-20% since the abolition of quotas. According to sources in the industry, India is gaining importance due to its efficiency in value addition. The country is set to become a hotspot for sourcing garments as international retail biggies like WalMart and Target are planning to open offices in India.
