NDTV secures uplink clearance for metro-centric channels
The Prannoy Roy-promoted NDTV Ltd is set to make his next big move in the news space, by launching metro-centric channels. The company is looking at garnering local (city-specific) advertising revenue with the launch of these channels.
It was last year that NDTV LTD applied for uplink clearance for the channels and the green-signal from the information & broadcasting ministry has now come through. The company has been toying with the Metro Nation as the name for its metro-centric channel. The nature of the channel will be focussed on news of various regions of India and more local based.
According to company sources, the launch of Metro-Nation will be operational in the next two to three months, depending on the go-ahead for some other minor clearances that are still pending.
At present, the company is running three news channels --- English channel NDTV 24x7, Hindi channel NDTV India and business channel NDTV Profit.
Recently, the company entered into an understanding with financial publication Business Standard for providing television software for NDTV Profit.
