InterContinental Hotels Group announces expansion of Crowne Plaza

InterContinental Hotels Group, the world’s largest hotel group by number of rooms, announced today the opening of its latest Crowne Plaza hotel in Jacksonville, Fla. The hotel, which is the brand’s first in the Jacksonville market, underwent a $3 million renovation prior to opening as a Crowne Plaza. With the addition of the Crowne Plaza Jacksonville-Riverfront, there are now 11 Crowne Plaza hotels with more than 2,800 guestrooms in the state of Florida.

“This is the sixth hotel to be added to the Crowne Plaza portfolio in North America this year,” said Kevin Kowalski, vice president, brand management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts. “We look forward to providing our industry leading meetings service.”

The Crowne Plaza Jacksonville-Riverfront features the newly introduced Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage which is available at all Crowne Plaza hotels in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The Sleep Advantage encompasses the entire sleep experience, from training staff on how to create and maintain a restful environment to providing innovative products and services. Program components include new bedding, guaranteed wake-up calls, designated quiet zones, night lights, drape clips, sleep CDs, sleep tips and amenities such as eye masks, ear plugs and lavender spray.

Also consistent with the Crowne Plaza brand, the hotel offers a comprehensive meetings package to ensure a seamless planning process and exceptional meeting experience consisting of three key components: a Two-Hour Response Guarantee, Crowne Meetings Director and a Meetings Daily Debrief. The Crowne Plaza Jacksonville-Riverfront has nearly 12,000-sq. ft. of flexible meeting space including 13 meeting rooms and an 80-foot yacht, also available for business meetings and social functions.

The property is situated in downtown Jacksonville, overlooking the St. John’s River. Recent renovations to the 292-room hotel include new wall and floor coverings in all meeting rooms as well as extensive upgrades to the hotel’s public areas. During a previous $1 million renovation in 2005, the hotel received new wall, window and floor coverings in all guestrooms as well as updated vanities and bathtubs.
