The Taj Business Hotels Division of Indian Hotels Company Ltd is planning to increase its presence in the domestic market. Under the expansion agenda, the hotel chain is designing a 200-room hotel at Santa Cruz in Mumbai.

Two more hotels are in the pipeline at Bangalore and Chennai. The fourth property is likely to be set up at Gurgaon where the documents are yet to be signed.

The new properties are expected to become operational by 2007. In another initiative, the group will hike room capacity at its properties in Hyderabad and Pune. Efforts are on to set up new business hotels in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. The Group will spend Rs 40-50 lakh per room for its hotels in big cities and Rs 30- 35 lakh per room in smaller cities. The figure is exclusive of land cost. In big cities, the Group hotels will have 200-300 rooms as against 150-200 rooms in smaller cities.
