Biotechnology is future of India: Thimmappa

A large number of enthusiastic students and teachers from over forty colleges of the city took part in a two day biotechnology symposium called Confluence@Biospectrum '06 organised by the Indian Academy Group of Institutions at Jnanajyothi Auditorium, Central College campus here on February 13, 2006.

Inaugurating the symposium Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor M S Thimmappa said: "Any information regarding new inventions and achievements in science should be disseminated among people only after thorough verification."

Stressing on the importance of science and especially biotechnology in every day life, Thimmappa opined that biotechnology is the future of India.

It can bring about revolutionary changes to people's lives as it provides a path way to the unexplored secrets of nature. Speaking on this occasion, chairperson, Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, Bangalore University, Geetha Bali said biotechnology is becoming a very popular discipline today.

Sophisticated equipment and technology are being adopted in carrying out all the research work in this area. Vice-president AstraZeneca India, T S Balganesh delivered a lecture on 'Drug discovery: Science or Art' and a Souvenir titled Confluence@ Biospectrum '06 was also released by the VC on this occasion.

Secretary-principal, Indian Academy Group of Institutions, T Somasekhar welcomed the gathering and chairman, Indian Academy Group of Institutions, Prof T Ekambaram Naidu delivered the vote of thanks.
