Govt targets 250 million telephones by 2007

The Government has set a target of having 250 million telephones by 2007, the Rajya Sabha was informed on February 27.

Minister of State for Communication Shakeel Ahmad said during the Question Hour that according to the National Telecom Policy, a teledensity target of 15 per cent has been set for the entire country by 2010.

The overall teledensity has touched 11.76 per cent as on January 31, 2006, he said adding the number of telephone connections in urban areas is more than in rural areas.
