Desktop computer sales in India in the year to March 2006 are expected to touch 4.7 million units from an earlier estimate of 4.25 million units, an industry body said on January 5.

"The high growth in personal computer (PC) sales can be attributed to increased consumption by industry, such as telecom, banking and retail," the Manufacturer's Association of Information Technology said in a statement.

Desktop sales in India were 3.63 million units in 2004/05 (April-March).
