India Fashion Week to begin April 5

Apart from the Lakme India fashion week, this year will also see the India fashion week (IFW) organized by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).

Sixty-five designers from all over the country will be showcasing their fall winter collections in the seventh IFW beginning April 5, 2006.

The fashion week this time will not be for a week but only five days. Also for the first time, multi-ramp fashion showings will be held to save time between consecutive shows.

Despite the recent demolition drive targeting Delhi's high fashion outlets, the fashion extravaganza will be on schedule.

No decision has yet been taken on barring designers who participate in the rival Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.

With a majority of designers swearing allegiance to the FDCI run India Fashion week, it's the most awaited fashion event of the year.

Although it represents only a small proportion of the Indian garments industry, it promises five days full of glitz and glamour on and of course off the ramp too.
