Vice Chancellor, University of Leads

Amity Institute of Nanotechnology is the first institute in India to offer Masters programmes in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience. As part of Amity Nobel Laureates Lecture Series Sir Harry Kroto, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his pioneering work in the field of Nanoscience delivered a lecture at Amity Campus, Sector – 44, Noida.

Nobel Laureate Sir Harry Kroto in his address highlighted that nanoscience had the potential to reduce costs with its multiple applications and the inherent ability to produce new materials like non-corroding and flexible iron. He commented that chemists for many years are trying to build larger and larger molecules and are now beginning to create large molecules with specific intrinsic functions. As an example he mentioned that Haemoglobin, which had been discovered fifty years ago, had revealed the fact that molecules could act as machines.

Sir Kroto was of the view was that Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is essentially the Chemistry of the 21st Century. He called upon students to look for global citizenship rather than single faith citizenship and make each country peaceful to get rid of nuclear weapons.

While penning down his remarks on his visit to Amity he expressed, “This was the most exciting group of students he had ever met.” Sharing his tips on how to be a successful scientist, he advised students to retain humour in their life and said that now the time has come when Nanotechnology techniques have to be applied in Industry and the common man should get an added advantage of hi-tech.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation awarded Nobel Laureate Sir Harry Kroto with the Platinum Award for his outstanding contribution in the world of chemistry and nanoscience which has revolutionized the future of science having far-reaching benefits to mankind. He announced the conferring of one full fee waiver scholarships every year for student of M.Tech in Nanotechnology and one to the Senior Secondary level student.

On this occasion Mr. Atul Chauhan, President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and Chancellor Amity University honoured Professor Michael JP Arthur, Vice Chancellor, University of Leeds with Amity Golden Award for his special efforts in research in the field of Cell Biology.

Among the dignitaries present were Lady Margret Kroto, Dr. Anil Vashney; Chief Urologist, Dr. G.S. Gujral from British Council, Dr. Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School, Mr. Anand Chauhan, Trustee, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) Ms. Pooja Chauhan, Vice Chairperson, Amity Humanity Foundation (AHF), Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Additional President (RBEF).
