CAT Eligibility Criteria for SC/ST/OBCs can be reduced to 40%

After the announcement of fixing minimum eligibility criteria of 50% for students to appear for CAT, the directors of the six IIM’s have now decided to fix the eligibility criteria for SC, ST and OBC candidates at 40%. The proposal will be approved in the meeting of the IIM Directors in June regarding CAT 2006.

The admission of the candidates from the weaker sections is bound to become much easier with more number of seats reserved for them and the minimum criteria to appear for CAT reduced to 40%. Currently the IIMs have 15% for the SC candidates and 7.5% seats reserved for the ST candidates. IIM Ahmedabad & IIM Bangalore has announced an increase in the number of scholarships offered to the students especially from the weaker sections of the society.

The changes in the eligibility criteria for CAT will affect many other B-Schools which accept CAT scores for admission into their institution.
