New breed of cos flock to B-schools

Traditional favourites such as investment banks, consultancy and fast-moving consumer goods companies may not be able to dominate the final campus recruitments of top B-schools this year.

Going by the early indications, the new breed of international strategy groups, private equity firms, hedge funds and retail chains are expected to give stiff competition to the regular top hirers this time round.

The placements for B-schools like the Indian Institutes of Management, Xaviers Labour Relations Institute, Faculty of Management Studies, and Management Development Institute are slated for mid-February-early-March.

Sources said companies had already begun flocking to campuses to conduct pre-placement talks with students. “Continuing boom in the Indian economy, rapid growth in emerging sectors, inflow of foreign capital and rise in the number of global multinationals setting up local operations are expected to get reflected during placements this time.
